The Ancient World in London Video – The Spring Equinox at Stonehenge

Heritage Key explorer Nicole Favish went to experience the Spring Equinox at Stonehenge. It is one of (only!) four times a year when the public are allowed to roam inside the stone circle. Nicole speaks to the Druids and mingles with the crowds to find out more about Stonehenge and what makes this time of year so special there. Watch the video!
Of course, we also visited the Illumination of Hadrian’s wall with the video camera. For a ‘front row (aerial) seat’ of this unique event, check out the Hadrian’s Wall video.

Win our Blog Challenge – Sex, Guns and Edutainment? Education in Virtual Worlds

Round 4 of the Ancient World in London Bloggers’ Challenge poses a question that’s sure to prove contentious: How much fun is Edutainment? How do we create a meaningful and educational virtual entertainment that’s  engaging enough, without any guns or sex? Is it possible? This is your chance to have your say on this fascinating issue.

As ever, all you need is a blog and an opinion to enter. All bloggers will win Ancient World in London points, to help towards qualification for the grand prize – a holiday in Turkey.  Plus the winner walks away with five books of their choice from the current Thames & Hudson catalogue. The deadline for entries is midnight, GMT on 10th of April 2010. Submit your entry here.

Some of the entries so far include:

  • ‘What online education projects can learn from popular games’ at betterverse.org
  • ‘Are educational games without guns any fun?’ on the Hot Tap Media blog
  • ‘How much fun is virtual edutainment?’ on Living Epic

Take photographs at King Tut and Stonehenge Virtual

We want to see your best high resolution photos taken in Heritage Key Virtual, and will reward the most sublime shots with non-virtual cash. Heritage Key Grid – running on OpenSim with some extra magic added to it – recreates  the ancient world, including the treasures from Tutankhamun’s tomb in the Valley of the Kings, and, most recently added, Stonehenge. It is easy to register and have a look at what we have created – an area well worth ‘snapshotting’.

Prize: There’s 250 points and $100 on offer for the winning photo, and 50 Ancient World in London points for every entry. Start snapshotting and submit your entries here.
