Museum of Fine Arts, Boston
The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, has one of the most extensive collections of art, with over 450,000 works from all over the world, and in a wide array of eras and styles. Today the museum works alongside the Nagoya/Boston Museum of Fine Arts in Nagoya, Japan and is home to the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. As such it houses a huge library complex, which stores over 320,000 items, and is permanently open to the public.
Collection highlights include Art of Asia, Oceania and Africa; Art of Europe; Art of the Americas; Art of the Ancient World; Contemporary Art; Musical Instruments; Prints, Drawings and Photographs; and Textiles and Fashion. The museum is home to a large cache of ancient Egyptian art, and includes such important and prominent displays as the Age of Amarna, Etruscan tomb paintings, Greek athletes, Greek mythology and Roman Emperors and Empresses. More recently there is also a much-heralded collection of French impressionist work, such as paintings by Gauguin, Monet, Renoir, Degas, Manet and Cezanne.
