The Natural History Museum was moved to the Exhibition Palace in 1905.

The Museo Nacional de Arqueología Antropología e Historia del Perú is the biggest and oldest museum in the country, in the Pueblo Libre district of the capital city Peru. It houses over 100,000 artifacts which span the entirety of the history of the area now known as Peru. Much of the museum's collection is focused on its pre-Hispanic past, including ceramics, textiles, metals, organic materials and lithics relating to Peru's ancient past. Documentation, in books, photos and videos, chronicles the country's colonial and republican heritage.

Visitors can walk through the museum's permanent displays, which are all arranged chronologically. Highlights of these collections include the Raimondi Stela and the Tello Obelisk besides other articles and human remains. There is also an impeccable scale model of the ancient city of Machu Picchu. The museum also holds regular temporary exhibitions, as well as housing a bibliographical collection, comprising three sections: the library, the archive and publications. It also involves itself in external missions, such as the accumulation of pre-Hispanic musical instruments.
