The temple complex at Karnak was a focal point for Ancient Egyptians. It was built in the 18th Dynasty Kings including Tutankhamun.

Karnak compromise numerous ruined chapels, temples pylons and other structures and is the largest ancient religious site in the world. Visitors usually only see the Precinct of Amun-Re, but there are three other figures connected with the site, each with buildings dedicated to them. These are Montu, Mut and Amenhotep IV, whose temple has now been dismantled. The most impressive part of the site is the Hypostyle Hall, containing 134 massive columns standing in 16 rows, the architraves of which are estimated to weigh 70 tons. There is also a striking double row of sphinxes flanking the approach to the Temple of Luxor. Roughly thirty pharaohs contibuted buildings to the site, making Karnak one of Egypt's most complex and diverse sites.
