Brooklyn Museum of Art, New York
The Brooklyn Museum, at home in the New York suburb of Brooklyn, is located inside a 560,000 sq foot Beaux Arts building that dominates the neighbourhood. It is the second-largest art museum in the city, and one of the biggest in the country. It holds twelve sections containing permanent collections: Arts of Africa and the Pacific Islands, American Art, Art of the Americas, Arts of the Islamic World, Asian Art, Contemporary Art, Decorative Arts, Egyptian, Classical and Ancient Middle Eastern Art, European Art, Libraries and Archives, Photography and Feminist Art. Famous pieces by Matisse and Henri Fantin-Latour, as well as a huge wealth of American art by the likes of Tait, Steir, Glackens and Arthur B. Davies.
The museum also runs a large number of exhibitions at any one time. Currently these include such popular displays as Egypt's Pagan and Coptic Sculpture, Gustave Caillebotte and Magic in Ancient Egypt. Feminist art also takes centre stage in an exhibit entitled The Fertile Goddess.
