Baia
Italy

Baiae was renowned as a luxurious bathing resort during the Roman empire. Many uber-rich Romans spent time at their villas in Baiae, including Nero, Hadrian and Julius Caesar. The town was infamous for its vice and wild beach parties, but it was equally known for its thermal spas which were believed to have medicinal properties. Part of the volcanic ring called the Phlegraean Fields, the volcanic activity meant that hot mineral springs were common throughout the area (the thermal baths on the nearby island of Ischia are still a major attraction for tourists).

Some of the structures of the town include the Temple of Echo, which also housed a bathing complex.
