Roger Michael Kean was the founder and managing director of Thalamus Publishing, which specialised in illustrated historical reference books for adults and children. Its books are based on the tight integration of text and images, underpinned by extensive colour mapping and illustrated re-constructions of ancient sites.
Kean has overseen the editing of more than 50 Thalamus titles, including 20 ancient history books. He is also the author of Forgotten Power – Byzantium – Bulwark of Christianity, Exploring Ancient Egypt, The Complete Chronicle of the Emperors of Rome and Pirates – Predators of the Seas (with Angus Konstam). He has also produced many of the maps used in Thalamus titles.
Kean spent his childhood in Nigeria before studying fine art and film technique. He then moved into magazine and, later, book publishing. Kean divides his time between reading histories and writing historical adventure fiction for boys.
