The Greatest Doctor of Ancient Times: Hippocrates and His Oath

The Greatest Doctor of Ancient Times
Hippocrates and His Oath
by Mary Gow
The writings attributed to Hippocrates document the beginnings of rational medicine. This is a biography of the ancient Greek physician, the Father of Medicine. His assumptions that diseases and cures came from nature, not the gods, and that a physician could treat a patient using knowledge obtained from experience or medical texts still form the basis of modern medicine. Today, doctors still follow Hipprocates' practice of detailed observations of patients, and we expect them to follow the Hippocratic Oath.
