Dans la Rome des Césars

Dans la Rome des Césars
by Gilles Chaillet
The giant map of Rome (3.25m x 2m) featured in this wonderful book is the brainchiild of Gilles Chaillet, the popular French cartoonist and designer. Chaillet – whose love of Rome is well-documented – studied the city at length: each street, each archaeological ruin, every nuance, to perfect the quality and subtlety of his design. The map was subsequently cut into sections and reproduced in this tome.
In the book, the city is 'discovered' via text presented through the eyes of Flaviano, an imaginary visitor who arrives in Imperial Rome. The text is in French, though an Italian version is also available.
