Centurion

Centurion
by Neil Marshall

Centurion is a forthcoming action thriller based on the legend of the Roman Ninth Legion, which is said to have marched into Scotland to vanquish the Picts and never returned. It's directed by Neil Marshall, whose previous pictures include Dog Soldiers, The Descent and Doomsday, and was shot on location in Scotland and England in the late winter and Spring of 2009. It's due for release in 2009.

Dominic West, best known for playing Detective Jimmy McNulty in HBO's The Wire, stars as leader of the Ninth Legion, General Virilus. He and his troops are joined by Quintus Dias - played by Michael Fassbender - a soldier who narrowly escpaed death at the hands Picts once already, when his unit was wiped out while stationed at a frontier fort. They face Etain, a mute Pict warrior played by Bond Girl Olga Kurylenko, of Quantum of Solace fame.

Marshall has described the film as not being too concerned with depicting a real version of events, but simply an entertaining one. "It's not meant to be historically perfect," he said. "I'm picking up on a legend and exploring it."
