Abusir And Saqqara In The Year 2005

Abusir and Saqqara in the Year 2005
by Miroslav Barta, Filip Coppens, Jaromir Krejci, Hartwig Altenmueller, Dieter Arnold, Vassil Dobrev, Ludwig Morenz, Miroslav Verner, Christiane Ziegler

This book is the result of the second international symposium dedicated to the necropolis of Abusir, Saqqara and Dahshur that took place in Prague in June-July 2005. The 30 articles include contributions by Hartwig Altenmueller, Dieter Arnold, Vassil Dobrev, Ludwig Morenz, Miroslav Verner, Christiane Ziegler and numerous other scholars. The contributions cover various aspects of the Memphite region from the Early Dynastic Period to the Roman era, but the bulk of the papers focus on the Abusir-Saqqara necropolis in the Old Kingdom. The study and interpretation of the archaeological remains and literary sources form the main themes of interest among the contributions, but the most characteristic feature of most papers is the use of a combination of archaeological, literary and iconographic material in order to attain a deeper knowledge and better understanding of the Memphite necropolis and its development over time.

Miroslav Barta is a Lecturer at the Czech Institute of Egyptology at Charles University in Prague, and a regular member of the Abusir archaeological project. He is the author of Abusir V: The Cemeteries at Abusir South 1 (2001), and co-editor with Jaromir Krejci of Abusir and Saqqara in the Year 2000 (2001).
