Linear B tablet

Mycenaean Linear B Tablet Ashmolean Museum Oxford.JPG

Key Dates

 Estimated 14th century BC.

Donated by Sir Arthur Evans in 1910.

This baked clay page-shaped Linear B tablet lists female workers.  There is evidence from other tablets to suggest that these women may have been associated with the textile industry and the processing of wool.  The list is set out with the name following the ideogram that indicates 'woman', followed by a number, which is sometimes preceded by a faint X mark.
