Key People

The 18th dynasty of ancient Egypt is perhaps the best known, and boasts a number of Egypt's most powerful pharaohs, including Tutankhamun, whose tomb was discovered by Howard Carter in 1922. This is considered to be one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of all time, being completely undisturbed by tomb robbers. All four of the Thutmosis pharaohs ruled during this period, which is sometimes referred to as the 'Thutmosid Dynasty'.

The grave goods in an Egyptian's tomb tell us about their lives and beliefs. A poor person had the same beliefs about the afterlife as a rich person but couldn't afford fine things. The person with these few objects, including this red and white painted pottery bowl, was poor. They took with them all they had - all they needed - for the afterlife.
