Egyptian Coffin Mask

Fakes and Forgeries - Coffin Mask

Key People

Jon Andrews

This mask has the style of an Ancient Egyptian coffin mask from 900BC and was sold for £5000. Stylistically, the design of the headband has no Ancient Egyptian parallel. w However, the texture of the wood was characteristic of Ancient Egyptian examples, making it possible that someone used a genuine piece of wood to create this object. It is believed to be embellished by convicted criminal Jon Andrews, who always denied knowing it was fake.
