Han Dynasty Eaves Tiles

Tile-end "Hua Cang" 瓦當

Key Dates

Han Dynasty (206 BC-220 AD).

Han eaves tiles are larger than their Qin equivalents with wider edges, and are grey in colour. As well as these differences, during the Han period there is an increase in the number of tiles with characters inscribed on them. As well as indicating how the tiles were used, these inscriptions also contribute greatly to the study of Chinese calligraphy.
