The warring states period Although the beginning of the "Warring states" period is under dispute, the warring state (also know as the "Era of warring states") covers the period from roughly 476 BCE to the unification of China by the "Qin Dynasty". Characteristics of the Warring state included the proliferation of the iron work in China, replacing bronze as the dominant metal used in warfare and different philosophies developed into the hundred schools of thought.
