The Civ games date back a long way, the original hitting elderly PCs back in the early 90's. Four sequels and a good slew of expansions have come out across pretty much every format since then. Each iteration has brought considerable advances to the series, refining the extensive title which challenges you to develop a winning civilisation. Starting from about 500BC, you can play your civilization right through to the modern era, with the option to win through warfare, economy, civility, democracy and a fair few other options too.

When Firaxis opted to release the game for mobile, it was only natural to assume they they would have to remove a fair amount of the complexity; something would have to give to be able to fit the game on to such a small gadget.

For those new to the Civilisation experience, the concept is simple one. You play the leader of one of history's great civilisations and must guide them, choosing various research paths and cultural choices, through the various ages of humanity to the current age and beyond. Your aim is to win via reaching a set goal (a set amount of economic activity, building a number of great wonders or just plain wiping out every other faction). While doing this you must deal with other great figures from the past who live up to their legacies.
