Daily Flickr Finds: Stefan Sonntag's Temple of Bacchus
Baalbek is a temple complex in Lebanon, north-east of Beirut, which incorporates The Temple of Bacchus. The smallest of the temples there, the history of the site goes back over 5,000 years!
Stefan Sonntag's photograph is an interesting take on this site, opting to take a lower angled perspective shot of the columns in a black and white format. The effect pays off in grand dues though, producing a fantastic photograph which manages to add both drama and solitude within the same image!
In particular to note in this photograph is the shadowplay, which is strongly emphasised in this image. The sky adds the final finishing touch, the perspective creating the impression of movement in the clouds and adding to the power in the image.
