Announcing the "Ancient World in London" Web Event and Content Series Starting January 2010
Heritage Key is off to a busy start in 2010 and we are pleased to announce our exciting new web event and content series the Ancient World in London. Starting at the end of January 2010, the project is sponsored exclusively by Addison Lee, London's largest minicab service. During 3 months online we will inspire people to set out for adventures and make their own great historical discoveries either live in London or online.
There is so much to learn about and see in London, both inside museums and at sites scattered across the city. There are many interesting topics to discuss and debate. We will invite Londoners and tourists from around the world - as well as the online community - to join in the action. Places that may look like nothing but ruins could actually be our links back to moments in time that have shaped our world and lives today (check posts: What is the Ancient World and Describing the Ancient World).
The Ancient World in London web event and new content series will utilise the most exciting new digital media available online today, including HD video, interactive applications, searchable location directory, games and virtual world areas. Expect some cool mobile apps also!
Heritage Key will also run live events in London such as quests, lectures, screenings, and special museum showings, and will host a grand finale event at a London location where prizes will be presented to winning event participants. More details will be posted on heritage-key.com/ancient-london.
There are many great places to explore and artefacts to get up close to in the London area (and slightly beyond). Some great treasures or touchstones to times long past are already very popular, where others are surprisingly unknown or hard to find. We will help people understand London by traversing back and forth across 5 key eras:
- Pre-historic and Neolithic periods
- Roman times
- Anglo-Saxon and Viking
- Age of Exploration
- Modern Day ruins and collections
Heritage Key will also act to enable the community of experts, students, enthusiasts and tourists to share their perspectives and information about London's vast heritage. Help us build the locations and artefacts directory by sending suggestions to info@heritage-key.com; together we will wander from the expected landmarks to the forgotten heritage sites of the city. For the many people who will not be in London, the new Stonehenge Virtual online 3D immersive area will be a great way to explore both history and new technology.
To find out about new virtual reality areas, online projects, and live events taking place as part of Heritage Key's Ancient World in London, visit the project web page, and sign up to receive Heritage Key RSS feeds.

I love all British history. Especially ancient British history.
I think it would be great to visit a virtual Skara Brae.
Thanks,
-Doug
I have one important thing to mention and that is in context of east and west,we see the combination of greeco-roman civilization as the basis of west.i would like to bring your attention towards the intellectual sharings between india and china.Chinese monks like huen tsang ,i tsing ,fa hien came to india to collect buddhist scriptures.IT was not only one sided sharing process indian intellectuals like gautama siddhartha who was named quartan xida in chinese who went to china and became the president of the official board of astronomy in eight century.
I agree with Doug - it would be fantastic to have a virtual Skara Brae on HK, and perhaps an 'Ancient World in Scotland' project to go with it? Looking forward to the launch of Ancient World in London first.
